Summary: I don’t recommend you do business with FastDomain. There are much better options out there. This FastDomain review shows why.

FastDomain started way back in 2005. They are an EIG owned company so just from a glance I thought a little less of them from the start. They only offer one type of web hosting plan. They offer what they call “reasonable prices” for their services. Maybe you’re wondering whether you’d get quality services for their cheap prices, but let’s find out in today’s review if this company is recommended by many users or not.
According to the owners, what makes them different is that they offer reliable 24-hour customer support, snapshot every six hours, uptime, and use of functional website tools. So whenever I review a web hosting company I am looking at a number of difference things; features, uptime, performance, customer support, and of course the price tag. Stay tuned for my full FastDomain review.
Fastdomain Features
FastDomain isn’t going to wow you with all kinds of web hosting plans. The fact is they only offer 1 plan for their clients. A lot of companies like WebHostingHub and Fatcow have used this business model to succeed in the past. FastDomain is no different in this area, but is their service worth it?
Shared Plan
Since they only offer one plan; it is just a pretty basic plan for your shared needs. Their price tag is $5.95/month. Just like almost every other hosting service they do offer you a free domain when you sign up with hosting with them. They support POP/IMAP for email, claim to offer unlimited space and bandwidth, operate on the Linux OS, and offer 24/7 monitoring and free backups.
But, back to the unlimited space and bandwidth. I really don’t like when I see these words from any hosting provider. Why? Because, I want to know the actual number that I can use per month with bandwidth and disk space. Nothing is worse than launching a site and later finding out that your service has been suspended because you’re using to many resources. I was going to contact them on this issue to find out what the real number is for disk space and bandwidth per month, but sadly their is no live chat for their service.
Control Panel
They do offer cPanel which you can actually check out before you decide if you want to go with them or not. It’s pretty easy to navigate and within 5 minutes I was easily able to do anything I wanted on the backend. They support tons of scripts; Perl 5, Ruby on Rails, Javascript, Python, PHP 5.4, etc. Typically, you’re going to want to use Fantastico to install your WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc. scripts and it does work great.
FastDomain Performance
Performance
I did want to check FastDomain’s performance to see what it looks like. But, sadly from doing a search on Google I wasn’t able to find out to much about the company. My guess is they are not a very popular web hosting company because there is pretty much no information online about this company. This isn’t a bad thing, but I can’t find anything either good or bad related to their performance. So, when it doubt I just put them in the “unknown” category until I can find more statistics or information on them.
Uptime
The same thing can be said about uptime, because I wasn’t able to find any information about their uptime online. Possibly I should sign up with their service and put one of my lizard niche sites on their servers and see how it performs. But, there is one thing that scares be about FastDomain and that is they are an EIG owned company. Obviously, EIG isn’t known for having the greatest uptime as many Hostgator and JustHost customers complain about uptime on Twitter all the time. So it’s just safe to say that FastDomain is just an unknown. They haven’t been proven to be bad or proven to be good.
FastDomain Customer Service
FastDomain doesn’t allow you to contact them at the wee hours of the night which I don’t like. For instance, if you need help with billing their business hours for phone support are 6 AM – 9 PM (Monday through Friday). On Saturday they have phone support from 8 AM – 8 PM. But, on Sunday they offer no customer support at all. They do have a 24/7 support line for technical support which is available both in the U.S. and outside the U.S. This is just a wild guess but from the EIG companies I have seen in the past they seem to use overseas support. I have not confirmed them yet.
The biggest drawback with FastDomain is their is no live chat feature. So I guess calling them or sending an email is the only option you have with FastDomain.
FastDomain Summary
All and all, FastDomain is just untested and there isn’t a whole lot of information about their company online. I don’t know if people are hating on them or loving them. I can tell you this though, they do not have live chat help, but are available on the telephone 24/7. I would like to hear from any FastDomain customers and let us know what you think of their company. Is it good or bad? Would you recommend them to your fellow webmasters? Why or why not?
But, I like to play it safe and use companies I know will be around 24/7 and have proven tract records in the industry. So, go with InMotion or WebHostingHub if you’re looking for a dependable web hosting company. Thanks for reading my FastDomain review.
