ReviewResearchInterviews

Globat LogoGlobat has been around since 2001.  They are an EIG owned company.  EIG owns a lot of popular hosts like HostNine, StartLogic, JustHost, HostMonster, and BlueHost. They proudly display on their site that they have over 100,000 websites hosted on their servers – worldwide.  Not a huge hosts.  Their goal is to provide web hosting plans for the novice to advanced site owners.  Globat does offer a ton of extra features.   My Globat web hosting reviews show what other site owners are saying above.

However, this is my expert Globat review.  I like to look at all areas of Globat.  First, will look at their features.  Next, performance.  Then uptime.  Next, customer support.  Then a summary of Globat.

Globat Features

Globat offers two shared plans.  They only offer shared plans.  No option to buy VPS or dedicated.  Along with services that will help you develop a site.  For instance, you can even buy domain names with them.  Then buy extra marketing tools.  Their two plans come with the Linux OS and use vDeck (much like iPower).

Let’s take a look at the two plans Globat offers.  Then, I will look at their extra services.

Shared Plans

GXo1.  $4.44/month.  50 MySQL databases.  Unlimited bandwidth, storage, domains, and email accounts.  Free domain for a year.  There is no setup fee, either.

GX19.  $19.99/month.  Unlimited bandwidth, storage, domains, and email accounts.  Free domain for a year.  Also, no setup fee.

Prices Go Up

Just Like StartLogic, the prices go up with your next billing period.

  • 36-month term.  $12.95 a month.  Billed $466.20 for three years.
  • 24-month term.  $13.95 a month.  Billed $334.80 for two years.
  • 12-month term.  $14.95 a month.  Billed $179.40 for one year.
  • 3-month term.  $14.95 a month. Billed $44.85 for three months.
  • 1-month term.  $14.95 a month.  Billed monthly.

Prices are high compared to GlowHost and Network Solutions.

Globat Uses Unlimited Marketing Tactic

Both packages say unlimited.  Have not been a fan of this marketing tactic.  Wrote an article on unlimited hosting offers which you can check out.  They do limit your storage and bandwidth to 25 GB per month.  Here is a discussion I had with Globat to clarify the questions and concerns I had:

Globat Presale Question

Extra Services

  • TextToGo.  TextToGo is a service that is $39.95.  One time fee.  It allows site owners to write your content on one of your pages.  For example, you are about us, home page, products page, etc.  It will include a 500-word article.  You must fill out a quick survey, before having a writer write your content.
  • My Marketing Services.  You can hire someone to manage your website.  Make enhancements to your existing site.  Also, you can hire them to help budget and advertise your site on Google Adwords.  If you’re running a local business, they even have tools to help you get noticed by the search engines.  There is no set price for these services, and it says to call them for more information.
  • FaceBook Business Page.  You can even have Globat develop a professional Facebook page for $149.95 (one-time setup), and then $5.95/month.

These are just a couple of the extra services you can purchase with Globat.  The others are:

  • JumpStart.
  • Premium Support.
  • Web Concierge.
  • FileManager Pro.
  • Web-to-Mobile Converter.
  • WebSite Creator (premium and eCommerce).
  • Site backups.
  • SiteLock.
  • ServiceMan.

Domain Names

Can register domain names with Globat.  As mentioned above domains are free with their plans.  After the first year, there is a $16.99/year renewal fee.  Pretty expensive.  Domains are higher than GoDaddy.  I do prefer to buy my domains with NameCheap.

Now that we know all the features that Globat offers.  Lets see what their performance and uptime looks like.

Globat Performance & Uptime

Uptime

Globat and uptime, is it 99.9%?

First, I look through their TOS page.

Could not find anything on Globat’s site about an uptime policy.

Recently, I got on live chat and talked with Akash S. I had a question about their uptime. Told me they do have a 99.9% uptime policy. I asked what happens if uptime falls below 99.9%. Told me, “We will make sure that it will not be below that.”

Globat Uptime

A lot of hosts will give you credit for the downtime. For instance, InterServer and RoseHosting have better uptime policies. I got a canned answer from Globat. It was odd. Indeed, not helpful. Did not reassure me that uptime would not be an issue.

Research shows from other Globat web hosting reviews uptime “could” be a problem. I did find some complaints from:

  • WhoIsHostingThis.com
  • WebHostingGeeks.com
  • WebHostingJury.com

Performance

Is Globat a speedy host?  No, and here is why.

The performance of your server matters. It has to do with how fast your site loads. Can kill your online traffic if speed is an issue. I logged onto live chat and talked with “Indira P.” Asked if Globat uses SSD hard drives. Was told, “We do not support SSD hard drives.”

Tested out Globat’s performance from many locations:

Los Angeles 71.42 ms
Dallas 48.49 ms
New York 6.35 ms
Singapore 280.91 ms
London 74.86 ms
Amsterdam 95.82 ms
San Francisco 71.19 ms

After nine lookups, the average response time of your name server ns1.dnsjunction.com is 92.72 milliseconds:

Also, tested them out with speed:

Loading Time First Byte Start Render Speed Index
First View 1.822s 0.545s 1.099s 1396
Repeat View 1.467s 0.723s 1.083s 1350

Research from other Globat web hosting reviews shows you “could” also have issues with speed. Also, Globat does not use SSD hard drives, either.

Globat Customer Service

How good is Globat’s customer support?

Lacking. Well, you got a preview of it when I was reviewing Globat’s plans.

They are available 24/7. Can contact Globat the following ways:

  • Live chat.
  • Toll-Free. 877-245-6228
  • Support ticket.

Globat does have a knowledge base.

Live chat does seem to load fairly quickly. Usually takes 5 minutes of less. Agents do appear to be outsourced overseas. Other hosts that seem to do this are 1and1 and MochaHost.

Research shows that many other sites have complaints on support. My Globat web hosting reviews have not been positive. So, you “could” have problems with support.

Globat Web Hosting Reviews Summary

Do I recommend Globat? No. Typically, do not support EIG owned companies. Prices are low at an introductory price. Then, on your next billing cycle, they increase four times. No solid uptime policy. Performance could have issues. Support is outsourced, and I feel is lacking. So, my Globat web hosting reviews have not been good. Research shows that site owners have had issues. Not a lot of good things I can say about Globat.

Shared Hosting Recommendations

Read my WebHostingHub.com review. Much better host. Also, A2 Hosting is decent, too.

VPS and Dedicated Recommendations

Read my InMotion Hosting review. Have used InMotion for 8+ years. Also, Liquid Web is another good VPS or dedicated option. Liquid Web is more expensive than Globat, but the quality of service is excellent.

Research on Globat is down below.

“Positive”

Globat Testimonials

Globat does have 100,000 sites on their servers. Not a lot since they were founded in 2001. They have stated this proudly on their site. Globat does have a “testimonials” section on their site. It has 25+ Globat testimonials.

“Negative”

WebHostingGeeks.com

WebHostingGeeks.com is another web hosting review website. They have received a lot more reviews from webmasters that use Globat than my hosting review site. I have taken the time to read through their 140+ comments that site owners left about Globat. For the most part, it seems to be pretty negative. Here is a summary of some pros and cons:

Globat Complaints:

  • Prices drastically increase when you renew with them. Up to 4X as much!
  • Lots of billing issues.  Do to their auto-renew feature.
  • Scripts that are not supported on some browsers.
  • Customer support isn’t very helpful. They don’t have great technical advice.
  • Problems were downloading larger files with their FTP.

Their Globat web hosting reviews are negative.  I just get the feeling that most site owners that left a comment on WebHostingGeeks.com.  Do not use their service anymore. They have 30+ 1 star ratings, 37+ 2 star ratings, and 30+ 3 star ratings. Only 40 people have left them a 4 or 5-star rating. The 4 and 5-star ratings were mostly back in 2009, though. There is a negative trend of unhappy customers from 2010-2015. Means that 3/5 of the people that sign up with Globat for web hosting are unhappy with them.

WebHostingJury.com

WebHostingJury.com is a web hosting review website that was registered on July 8th, 2003. They have been around for nearly 15 years. They rate them on reliability which is 2.1 out of 5. Support which is 1.8 out of 5.  Pricing which is 3 out of 5.  They get an overall score of 2 out of 5 stars. Site owners that left a comment are not ranting and raving about them.

The content on WebHostingJury.com might be a little outdated. Meaning, they haven’t gotten any feedback since 2013 whenever they did receive feedback it was pretty negative. The biggest issue they seem to have is their customer support which gets 1.8 stars out of 5. They have the most Globat reviews, so far.

WHTop.com

WHTop, like tbwhs.com, reviews the wide array of hosts on the internet. They offer a thorough analysis of the structure of the host, along with the services offered. Their analysis covers everything from the location and size of data centers to graphs of daily page views and other information. Missing from their analysis, however, is a handy-dandy score. Either a five-point or ten-point scale is fine.  Just give us something to use to rank the host by the editor. In this case, WHT has thoroughly studied Globat.

Overall Score

Since WHTop doesn’t give overall scores.  We have to read all of the fine print. There is a detailed explanation of all of the services.  No judgment of the quality of each of these services and features. We have to go on to the customer reviews to draw a conclusion.

Globat Customer Reviews

Customers who have used Globat place extreme reviews. They either love them or they hate it. I had to go by the number of each group of reviews.  The negatives won.
The people who love Globat like everything about it. They love the features.  It is quite affordable.  Consider the control panel easy to navigate.  Love the customer service.

  • The customers who hate Globat “really” hate them.  Globat gets two stars.  They say customer service is useless.
  • Billing is a nightmare.
  • Customers receive double and triple bills.

Overall, there is some good and bad in the reviews.  There are over 20 site owners that have left them a negative review. Meaning this is far more than the seven positive reviews site owners have left about Globat.

“Neutral”

WhoIsHostingThis.com

WhoIsHostingThis.com is another web hosting review site. They have a lot more companies that they have reviewed than tbwhs.com. Their site is all user generated reviews.  They do have an expert Globat web hosting review, too.  Here are the pros and cons.

Globat Pros

  • Uptime is great.
  • Users like cPanel.
  • Fast website speed.
  • Priced low.
  • Lots of support with higher tiers.  They get complex problems solved fast.

Globat Cons

  • You are allowed multiple domain parking.  Can not access databases separately.
  • There are extra fees for subdomains.  Extra options that a lot of hosts do for free.
  • Have to talk to someone to cancel your account.  Applies to auto-renew billing.
  • If your website is hacked and has malware is found.  Globat will suspend your account. You have to remove the malware.  Then wait half a day for them to restore your service.
  • Do not remove malware for you.

Globat gets 3.2 stars out of 5. This score is average.  Only based on less than 10 Globat web hosting reviews, though.

Top10Reviews.com

Top10Reviews reviews host. The price, pros, cons, and a score are at the top. They then offer comparisons with other hosts. Here is what was stated on Globat.

Overall Score

Top10Reviews.com ranks their reviews on a ten point scale. Globat receives 7.4 out of 10 points.  The score is “ok.” Their evaluation of the host is that it’s ok for beginners because it’s easy to use and quite affordable. However, the function of the site suffers because it is a bit over-simplified.

Setting up your website is easy.  You get a free domain and unlimited bandwidth.  It is kind of hard to get started. The payment doesn’t go through immediately.  You have to wait for hours for a call back from customer service. However, their tech support is great.

Customers Say

Customers who have used Globat review the product, ant the scores are all over the place. People either love the host, or they hate it and warn everybody to use another host. If you need an excellent, basic website, this is a pretty good company. If you need more intricate support or expect a ton of traffic, you might want to consider some other service.

All in all, it looks like Globat is an ok option for webmasters. Meaning if you don’t need a lot of traffic you should be ok. They only offer two shared hosting plans so if you need a VPS later on that isn’t an option. Overall, as I have stated, they get a 7.4 out ten from Top10Reviews.com. Almost make the top 10 list.  Features are lacking.

Below are interviews with site owners that use Globat.

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • LinkedIn
