InterServer is a hosts that was founded in 1999. Been around as long as many popular companies like GoDaddy, 1and1, RoseHosting, LiquidWeb, and Network Solutions. Since, they are no newbie in the web hosting industry you can see how they have evolved with the industry over the years. InterServer has 3 data centers; 2 located in New Jersey and one located in Los Angeles. They own all of their data centers and don’t rent them out like a lot of other hosting companies do. They have clients that are Fortune 500 companies and their customers are located all around the globe.
Whenever, I review a web hosting company I like to look at their features, performance, uptime, and customer support. Then once I look at each of these areas of their business I write a summary either recommending InterServer or pointing you elsewhere. So, lets jump right into this InterServer review and see what all they have to offer.
Before I get started showing you all the web hosting plans they offer I just want state that they offer small plans as well as larger plans that are suited for large corporate websites. You can easily add extra features, a plethora of operating systems, applications, etc. to do anything you want with your server. So, now lets take a look at their plans.
InterServer has a variety of shared plans to meet your needs. Their plans include a standard web hosting plan, Managed WordPress plans (see this article on managed WordPress plans) and windows web hosting plans. The Managed WordPress plan is $8 a month and the other two plans are $5 a month. I should note that their WordPress plan isn’t a true managed WordPress plan because you do have access to cPanel and don’t have a dedicated agent that updates all your plugins, themes, etc. All of the plans come with unlimited storage and unlimited transfer. The standard web hosting plan( which is recommended) comes with unlimited websites. These plans come with a number of other great features which include things like the following: free website migration, privately owned datacenter, guaranteed email delivery and 24X7 support.
InterServer’s Reseller plans offer unique solutions and expertise that ensure a great experience. These plans include instant account setup, proactive backups, easy management and premium hardware. There are five different pricing options which range from $19.95 to $69.95 a month. You will get a minimum of 60GB of disk space and 500GB of monthly bandwidth with all of these plans. Other available features include unlimited domains and unique ip addresses. Unique ip addresses come at a cost of only an additional $1 a month. You don’t have to pay a cPanel licensing fee or setup fee either.
VPS & Cloud
VPS & Cloud are available for very reasonable rates. You can get linux cloud VPS starting at $6 a month and windows cloud XPS starting at $10 a month. This is very cheap! The plans come with a long list of features which include instant provisioning, 99.9% uptime guarantee, multiple language servers and backups and snapshots. Operating system options include Windows, Archlinux, Ubuntu and many more. With the available bread basket you get a host of additional abilities such as Deploying 100’s of apps on your cloud VPS and only deploying the software you need.
InterServer offers dedicated plans that focus on quality and affordability with dedicated servers starting at only $59 per month. These plans have no setup fees, 24/7 uptime monitoring and 4 hour server provisioning. Three different server configurations are available ranging from $39.00 to $310.00 a month. The prices are right on par with Hostgator, DreamHost, and Hostnine. All of these options include a minimum of a 250 GB hard drive and 1 GB of memory. There are numerous Operating system options available including windows and cloud linux. These dedicated servers are completely devoted to your application’s needs, and they are not shared with anyone else.
InterServers Quick Servers are dedicated servers with a short 20 minute setup time. When you order a Quick Server you get access to the InterServer Management System. This allows for reboots, reinstall’s, and out of band console access. InterServer’s quick servers run on RAID1. All of the included hardware will be monitored and managed by them. There are no required long term commitments and the servers start at $130 a month, and they include 16GB of RAM and 400GB of hard drive space.
With Colocation Services you get plans that are scalable, redundant and resilient. There are four available packages which range in price from $125 a month to $1200 a month. These plans include a minimum of 10mbps on 100mb port and 5 IPs. There are also a number of optional add-ons which include things like additional power, OS install (Linux, BSD), system administration and cPanel/WHM VPS License. The extras do come with a cost, however include with the plans for free are features like roof rights, UPS and generator backup 24/7 Center Access.

InterServer Performance & Uptime
Performance is one commonly overlooked aspect to every web hosting company. 9 times out of 10 you don’t realize just how important your website’s performance can affect you until you sign up and use their service. InterServer does have very good performance, though. Since, they are using SSD hard drives their servers perform quickly. They use SSD SQL Offloading and SSD Enhanced Servers.
A lot of other web hosting companies will overload their servers, too. Mostly, this pertains to shared and VPS plans. Once a server is overloaded with thousands of websites. It can cause all the websites on that single server to slow down. However, InterServer is different than other companies because they only load their servers to 50% server capacity. This leave their clients with some growing room, and you won’t notice any performance issues.
You can use this site to check how many site are on a single server here: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/web-sites-on-web-server/. This will show you all websites hosted on that server.
Furthermore, I do like how InterServer limits the amount of sites on their shared server. This is one thing I would like to see other hosting companies do in the upcoming years. It really does make a big impact in terms of performance.
Research shows customers are happy with InterServer. Various sites have lots positive reviews:
InterServer does have a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Meaning that your server should not be down for extended periods of time. If ever the uptime is below 99.9% uptime InterServer will credit the client for the lost time. It’s all in their service agreement found at https://www.interserver.net/service-level-agreement.html
Research shows customers are happy with InterServer. There have been a few complaints about the uptime, but I do like InterServers uptime policy. You just need to contact them within 7 business days of an outage to receive credit for the downtime.
InterServer Customer Support
Customer support is always one area of a web hosting company that can make or break a web hosting company. As web designers and webmasters we are very busy people and we want problems sorted out quickly. I have had my share of good and bad experiences with customer service over the years. Thankfully, InterServer does have excellent customer support, though. There are a number of different ways you can reach them; live chat, support ticket, and through the telephone.
From my experience live chat usually gets you problems squared away when you contact them. The wait time is generally less than a minute to connect. Support tickets are usually answered in 2-4 hours, too. I do like how InterServer’s customer support is local based. Meaning, if you’re in the United States your not going to be talking with an agent overseas. Lastly, from the research I have done, it looks like most webmasters are very happy with the customer support.
InterServer Review Summary
Overall, I do recommend InterServer because they are very reputable company that has been around for almost 20 years. They offer a ton of different plans and you can customize your servers however you want them. InterServer supports both Linux and Windows operating systems and you can deploy a dedicated server in 20 minutes. Their performance is great because they use SSD hard drives and only load their servers to 50% capacity. Their uptime is fantastic, and their support is very quick to answer you back. Overall, InterServer is a very solid company and I highly recommend that you use their service.
However, if InterServer won’t work for you I would recommend checking out my InMotion hosting review. They are a company that I have been using for 8+ years now. Also, WebHostingHub is a good option if you looking for a good shared server.
