Real Web Host is one of the household names when it comes to web hosting. For a few reasons, this website seems to try to become as friendly and as top-notch as possible. They do offer a lot of flexibility for your hosting needs. This website hosting company has been in the business since 1997 and has tried to make things as easy as possible for their clients. They’ve made automated systems for fast sign ups and quick access. However, they are a lot more expensive than other web hosting companies? But, are they worth it?
The website hosting company boasts about its high-end technology. Aside from that fact, I also found out that they are online anytime if you meet problems. They’re boasting that they’re online 24/7, so you can always count that their servers are up and running all the time. Well, this could be taken into account when choosing for a website hosting company. Today, the company offers plans which include shared, reseller, semi-dedicated, and dedicated to their customers. In this full RealWebHost review I am going to show you why there are better option though.
Real Web Host Features
Shared Plans
RealWebHost offers 5 different shared hosting plans. Here are the details of their shared hosting plans:
Personal
The Personal plan is the lowest shared hosting plan you can purchase. It comes with 15 GB bandwidth, 500 MB of storage, 15 FTP, and 5 MySQL/PostgreSQL databases. The price for this plan is $8.95/month.
Network
The Network plan is the second shared hosting plan. It comes with 20 GB bandwidth, 600 MB of storage, 40 FTP, and 10 MySQL/PostgreSQL databases. The price for this plan is $12.95/month.
Power
The Power plan is the third shared hosting plan RealWebHost offers. It comes with 25 GB bandwidth, 750 MB of disk space, 100 FTP, and 30 MySQL/PostgreSQL databases. The price for this plan is $14.95/month.
Real Web
The Real Web is the forth shared plan. This plan comes 30 GB of bandwidth, 900 MB of storage, 900 MB of space, unlimited FTP and MySQL/PostgreSQL databases. The price for this plan is $18.95/month.
Pro
The last shared plan is the Pro plan. The Pro plan comes with 40 GB of bandwidth, 1200 MB of storage, and unlimited FTP and MySQL/PostgreSQL databases. The price tag for this plan is $28.95/month.
The first thing that strikes me odd about these plans is their beginner plan (“Personal”) is 2-3 times as much as a lot of other shared hosting companies. For example WebHostingHub is half the price of their cheapest plan. Obviously, other companies would allow you 2-3 GB of bandwidth per month, but RealHostWeb does allow you 15 GB of bandwidth. Also, their highest plan the Pro is outrageous for shared plan! Who in their right mind would pay $29 for a shared hosting plan? Bare in mind; it’s a beefed up plan. But, if you compared it to InMotion’s beginner VPS plan you’ll clearly see it isn’t worth the money. I mean what sounds better RealWebHost 1,200 MB and and 40 GB of bandwidth or InMotion’s VPS with 40 GB of storage and 750 GB of bandwidth? Seems to be a no brainer!
VPS Plans
RealWebHost does offer 4 shared plans. Here is a breakdown of the VPS plans they offer:
VPS1
This plan comes with 384 MB of RAM, 512 MB of swap space, 125 GB of transfer, 10 GB of space, and 2 IP addresses. This plan will run you $29.99/month.
VPS2
This plan comes with 512 MB of RAM, 1,024 MB of swap space, 275 GB of transfer, 20 GB of space, and 2 IP addresses. This plan will run you $59.99/month.
VPS3
This plan comes with 764 MB of RAM, 1,536 MB of swap space, 575 GB of transfer, 30 GB of space, and 2 IP addresses. This plan will run you $79.99/month.
VPS4
This plan comes with 1,024 MB of RAM, 2,048 MB of swap space, 1,000 GB of transfer, 40 GB of space, and 2 IP addresses. This plan will run you $109.99/month.
It’s just crazy looking at what you get for the money with RealWebHost. Pretty much any VPS you compare to them will beat their cheapest plan and their VPS4 is just outrageous for what you actually get for the money. To add insult to injury they even charge an extra $15/month for cPanel, and $5 per 100 MB of space, $50.00 for 100 GB of bandwidth, and one time start up fees for SSL and an SSL Certificate. This means that if you purchased all the tools you want your price is going to be 2-4 times as other web hosting companies.
Reseller Plans
For reseller hosting RealWebHost.net does offer 5 different plans. Here is a breakdown of the plans they offer:
RS Mini
This plan comes with 20 GB of monthly transfer, 1000 MB of storage, 20 domain names, 5 FTP for domain names, and is $22.95/month.
RS
The RS plan comes with 30 GB of monthly transfer, 2000 MB of storage, unlimited domain names, 10 FTP for domain names, and is $29.95/month.
RS1
This plan comes with 50 GB of monthly transfer, 4000 MB of storage, unlimited domain names, 20 FTP for domain names, and is $54.95/month.
RS2
This plan comes with 70 GB of monthly transfer, 8000 MB of storage, unlimited domain names, 30 FTP for domain names, and is $89.95/month.
RS3
This plan comes with 90 GB of monthly transfer, 12000 MB of storage, unlimited domain names, 40 FTP for domain names, and is $119.95/month.
Optionally, you do have the option to add 100 MB of space for $2/month, 1 gig of bandwidth for $1.25/month, and 10 additional sub domain names for $2/month and a one time $5 setup fee.
Dedicated Plans
For dedicated plans RealWebHost does offer 7 different plans. They range anywhere from $139.95 – $389.95 per month. Each of their dedicated plans does require a $59.95 setup fee. A lot of other host will give you a free setup. You can either purchase a plan that is semi-dedicated or fully dedicated. The option is completely up to you. Unlike a lot of hosting companies they don’t require you to pay a monthly licensing fee for cPanel.
RealWebHost Performance
RealWebHost has pretty decent performance. The performance of RealWebHost is relatively higher than its competitors. But on the other hand I’ve tested their response times and they are in the “average” range. With SiteUpTime.com I check the response rates from their servers. Generally, anything under .20 I get excited about. While RealWebHost was a modest .338 they certainly are not a slow web hosting company. Here is a screenshot of my findings:
They can guarantee up to 99.5% uptime. For the most part they do abide by these guarantees. RealWebHost does come with redundant network connections which connect with high-speed servers. In black and white this just means that you can trust that their infrastructure is solid and you won’t be seeing any amounts of extended downtime. Most users have said that RealWebHost is giving them excellent network monitoring 24/7. This hosting solution also presents users with daily backups and raw logs access. RealWebHost performance is quite high because servers are rarely down reported by webmasters using this hosting company. Plus, this company doesn’t charge backups unlike others.
RealWebHost Customer Service
RealWebHost does have pretty decent customer support. Aside from there being business hours for customer support and no live chat. Whenever, you do contact them you’ll get a pretty fast response time. Normally, within a couple hours for support tickets, and people have reported that their customer service team really does break their back to resolve any issues you might have. I do wish they didn’t have business hours for their support though. I could see this being frustrating if you had an issue at 8 pm Wednesday night and the only way to get ahold of them was through their support ticket though. They should really strongly consider adding a “live chat” feature, too.
RealWebHost Summary
RealWebHost isn’t a horrible web hosting company by any means. In fact, the general feedback from other webmasters does seem to be pretty good. However, what kills it for me is their price. You can expect to pay more with them. I would much rather spend my money with another web hosting company and save some monthly expenses. However, for that reason and that reason alone I can’t recommend them. If you have any experience working with RealWebHost would you please leave your comments down below. If you found this RealWebHost review helpful would you mind sharing it on any social media sites you actively participate on?
If you want cheaper web hosting go with InMotion or GreenGeeks.com. Both of those companies are feature rich web hosting companies and their price tag is about half of what RealWebHost charges. Thanks for reading.
