Servage is dubbed as one of the best hosting companies founded in 1998 and has since become a household name. I’d like to take this opportunity to give you a fresh insight of whether the services Servage offers is the right choice.  According to Servage, they’re well-established and independent. They said that they’re also experienced in hosting services.  So, I will put their technical knowledge to a tough test today.  As you can see, I jump on live chat with them in this article.  My hopes for them are high!

Today, they host about 200,000 sites and say that they can host your website due to their large server space. The company name is derived from two words “serve” and “age.” I found out that their main agenda is to serve their clients while also keeping themselves with updated technology. Servage is said to be the next big thing in website hosting because it’s said to be advanced technically compared to other hosting websites such as BlueHost. Servage is boasting about its clustered platforms which changed the world of hosting.  In this Servage review, you’re going to find out why I don’t recommend them.

Servage Features

Servage or Servage one offers just one shared hosting plan.  In the past, this would run you $7 a month.  But, now Servage is offering their shared plan for only $2.95/month.  There might be a little voice in your head saying “Yeah buddy!”  With this plan, they offer you unlimited disk space, bandwidth, unlimited email accounts, and free domains or domain transfers.  Ok, so what I did was I jumped on the live chat with Servage to ask them about their unlimited disk space and bandwidth (see this article on unlimited bandwidth offers).  Here is a screenshot of our conversation:

Servage Live Chat 1

So, I guess it’s safe to say you can’t have a 2 TB site and use 5 TB per month.  But, they told me they would suggest a VPS for that.  Again, no actual limits to how much you can use on their shared server.  I know if I called InMotion or WebHostingHub they would tell me the actual limit.  So, I guess it safe to say no one knows what you can use for $2.95/month?  It’s probably the 8th wonder of the world.  Chances are whenever you exceed the limit they will suspend your account.

I had another question about their control panel which is later in this review.  And I figured I would try my luck with asking how much bandwidth I could get on that shared plan.  This time I asked if I could use 10 GB of space and 10 GB of monthly bandwidth.

Servage Live Chat 2

They told me that was fine.  That is funny!  I guess if someone wants to try it out and let us know be my guest.  But, I have been down that road before, and I know for a fact that your account will get suspended.

VPS Plan

So, now let’s take a look at their VPS plan they offer.  For only $19.95/month you can get a VPS server.  Yes, this is very cheap!  They state on their website that you get 1 CPU, 6000 RAM, 150GB of disk space, and 5 TB of monthly bandwidth.  You will also have full root access, though.  There is not a lot of info on what you’re getting at $19.95.

I couldn’t find out which control panel they use so I jumped right back on live chat to ask.  They told me they use a customized control panel.  So I guess it’s their own in-house control panel.  If anyone has any experience with it let us know how it works?

Servage Performance

When it comes to performance, Servage could start great, but it could slowly deteriorate. In fact, if there is one thing you can most certainly count on it site hacks and for your servers to run buggy.  There have even been clients that have reported they have lost all of their data.  I know this sounds a little odd to me, but they lost an entire clients site, and for compensation, they offer him a free month of hosting.

Servage Dataloss

There have even been speculations that they overload their servers which could be the cause of them running buggy.   Lots of webmasters had reported these problems time and time again before they finally called it quits with Servage.  I guess it’s safe to say that you certainly get what you pay for; a cheap hosting service with lots of headaches and problems down the road.

Servage Problems

Servage Customer Service

Above in my review on Servage, you got a taste of their customer support.  I just guess that their customer support is overseas or outsourced to India or somewhere.  I have some questions and concerns with Servage if they can’t tell you the amount of disk space or bandwidth you can use with them.

They do have a live chat and a support ticket you can reach them at.  However, I’m not so sure on how helpful Servage are going to be.  For me, they weren’t useful at all.  Maybe others can give us more information on them?

Just from doing some research on their customer support I have found other hosting review sites are not ranting and raving about their customer service.

Servage Review Summary

Servage isn’t the best choice for your website hosting because there are many issues that they’ve got to fix first in their system. A lot of users say that their sites get hacked all the time.  The risk just doesn’t seem to be there for me, and I wouldn’t recommend you waste your time with them.

I don’t feel they are horribly bad, but I would recommend others to them.  They do have their custom control panel.  I would prefer to use cPanel.  I feel Servage has some key improvements they could make.  I would like it if they would tell you how much bandwidth you can use.  Also, I have questions about their support.  If Servage could address the stated issues, I would be more than willing to reevaluate them.

Overall, Servage seems to get negative feedback from webmasters. I would recommend InMotion or WebHostingHub if you are looking for a good hosting company.  I have done business with both of those hosts for years.

Servage research.

“Positive”

WebHostingGeeks.com

WebHostingGeeks reviews web hosting sites in the same way that tbwhs.com does. WHG offers a bullet-point summary of the services offered by the web host. Following that is a graph showing the historical rating over the last quarter, plus overall ratings of the host. Their scoring is done on a 5 point scale, with five stars being the best. Real users that have used Servage then leave their feedback on the company. There have been about ten comments that have been left on them.

Overall Score

Servage does get excellent overall scores. They report that customer reviews posted to their site give Servage a ranking of 97% in customer satisfaction. These customers also say that the host has a 99.98% uptime for their servers. Also, according to WebHostingGeeks.com, Servage is an award winning company and offers 24/7 customer service. Their five-month history is quite level, showing consistent service. They receive four out of five stars for price, software, user-friendliness, and reliability. They only received three of five stars for tech support.

Customers Say

Most customers who offered reviews on WebHostingGeeks.com say that Servage offers great service for the price. Most say the customer service is great, while a few say that it is either unavailable or clueless. In fact, several say that customer service tells them to fix the problem themselves. Still, others comment that the email is a problem.

In general, it seems that if you are pretty savvy in running your website, Servage may offer enough features to make you happy, if you can fix your problems. But, overall the feedback on them on this site seems to be pretty positive. For this reason, I am adding this piece of my research to my positive section.

“Negative”

HostJury.com

HostJury, much like tbwhs.com, provides reviews and analysis of a wide variety of the web hosting sites. HostJury provides a brief overview of the host being reviewed, with an overall score of all reviews posted. Then, the individual reviews are posted. Here is what they have to say about Servage.

Overall Score

HostJury gives Servage an overall score of about 28 on a 100 point scale. The highest score is 50, and that is for features offered by the hosting service. The next highest score is 45 for the price, indicating that you at least get almost an even trade-off of features for the price. However, Uptime is only ranked at 15%, and customer support is only 5. It is one of the worst overall scores I’ve seen.

Deleted Sites

Several customers said that their sites were deleted without warning. In some cases, there was not even a backup of the site available. Others say their sites were closed down because of a reported virus. However, after thorough scanning, no virus was found. But, Servage did not get the sites back into action for several days.

Email

Other customers said that their email would be sent as spam and that they were never warned when they were approaching their 5GB quota. Their account would be suspended, and there would be no access since webmail would be inactive.

Support

The most common complaints about customer support are that it was virtually impossible to speak to anyone in person. All calls are taken by Autobot. When you do get a person, they don’t help and tell you that you messed it up somewhere.

As you can clearly see the feedback with HostJury.com is horrible. Customers that have taken the time to leave a comment about Servage are not happy with them at all. They have received some of the lowest ratings I have seen.

“Neutral”

WebHostingJury.com

WebHostingJury.com is a web hosting review site that has 100% all user reviews. They have collected over 115 responses from customers that have used Servage in the past. Mostly it looks like people are mostly happy with them. I say mostly because there have been good and bad things that webmasters have said about Servage. Here is an overview of some of the things other webmasters are saying about them:

Bad

  • Websites that they host with are slow. Servage wants you to clean up your server if you’re only using a couple of GB of space.
  • Support is not 24/7. It seems that it’s just for sales. They will reply to you through a support ticket, though.
  • Sites have been shut down for malware. It takes 3-5 days to get your website back up once this happens.
  • There have been reports that they overload their servers.
  • There control panel not as friendly as cPanel.
  • People have reported that they have some security issues.
  • There have been lots of outages. They seem to keep happening.

Good

  • They have many happy clients that have been using them for years.
  • They do allow adult content. I guess this can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.
  • Many people have reported that they are very reliable.
  • The price is a bit higher, but a lot of people feel it’s a quality service.
  • They do reply to support tickets very quickly. They take the time to help you solve problems.

Overall, it looks like Servage gets 3.6 out of 5 for reliability, 3.6 out of 5 for support, 4.3 for pricing, and they are rated 3.5 out of 5 overall. Overall from 2005-2013 they have received mixed feedback over the years. In the beginning, webmasters were praising their services all the time. But, for two years it looks like webmasters have been really unhappy with them. I was considering adding this to my positive section, but since I have seen a negative trend of reviews, I am adding them to my neutral section.
